Captain Dinesh Neupane, who along with co-pilot Santosh Rana heroically saved the life of nine passengers in a crash-landing of Air Kasthamandap’s small aircraft in Kalikot of far-western Nepal on Thursday but died during the mission, was cremated in his hometown Nepalgunj today. After the solo engine of the aircraft that took off from Nepalgunj to Jumla failed midair, Neupane and Rana had decided to crash-land the aircraft on a wheat field in Chilkhaya of Kalikot in order to save the passengers on board. Neupane died in the cockpit during the crash-landing, while Rana succumbed to the injuries two and half hours later. Neupane’s mortal remains were taken to the bank of Rapti River at Kamdi for cremation after the kith and kin paid their last tributes to him at his house in Koreanpur of Nepalgunj-16. Hundreds of people had taken part in his funeral.

Neupane’s body was taken to Kathmandu on Saturday for autopsy and brought to Nepalgunaj earlier today. Meanwhile, participants of the funeral procession demanded that Neupane and Rana, who saved life of passengers sacrificing their own, be honoured by the state posthumously.
