The ICC World Cricket League is a series of international one-day cricket tournaments for national teams without Test status, administered by the International Cricket Council. All associate and affiliate members of the ICC are eligible to compete in the league system, which features a promotion and relegation structure between divisions.
The ICC World Cricket League (ICC WCL) was created in 2007 to provide regular playing opportunities for similar standard ICC Associate and Affiliate Members (AMs) in an international 50-over competition structure. The ICC World Cricket League currently includes six divisions. Each division has six teams, except for ICC WCL Division 6 which has eight teams. Each divisional event is played approximately every 12 - 18 months and lasts 8 to 10 days in a round robin format. Promotion and relegation takes place between divisions. Top four teams from ICC WCL Division 2 held in Namibia in 2015 earned a spot in the ICC World Cricket League Championship 2015-17 and top two qualified for the ICC Intercontinental Cup 2015-17, which is the ICC’s four-day, first class competition for AMs. Following the recent decision of the ICC Board to “break the glass ceiling” and allow the winner of the ICC Intercontinental Cup the opportunity to qualify to play Test cricket, the WCL has taken on even greater significance.
