Bhairahawa-Sunauli border became tense on Monday after the protestors, who arrived at the no-man’s land for sit-in protest began pelting stones at Nepali security personnel at around 12:30 pm. Eight policemen, including two DSP, sustained injuries in the confrontation. Also, two media personnel have been injured.
The cadres of agitating Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha (SLMM) suddenly started raining stones when the security personnel approached them to request for not staging such demonstration that would block the border.
Armed Police Force DSP Shankar Khanal and Nepal Police DSP Rameshwor Karki were injured in the incident. Injured journalists were Sharada Malla and Salman Khan. The protestors fled towards the Indian side after the incident. However, police managed to detain three demonstrators in connection with the incident. Vehicular movement has come to a grinding halt following the incident.
